Day 2

So Day 2 of our Adventures with Alexis found us delivering meals on wheels this morning, dollar store run, lunch, and then we went to "Monster Golf". It's a really cool indoor mini golf where everything glows in the dark! I thought that it might be a little creepy but it was actually really fun. All of the holes, balls, artwork, everything glows in the dark.....Even Alexis' nails glow........A really neat place.Time for a little game of air hockey on the way out.....till Jordan accidentally pulled the plug.....Game over!

visitor

Cody is away on a missin trip with our church to Columbia, PA (out near Harrisburg) so my niece Alexis has come to stay with us for a week and keep Jordan company. First we went to the Library...
Then it was time for some lunch....Then it was time to get down to the serious business of playing! "You feeling lucky, PUNK?"Today we went and delivered meals on wheels..........The folks we deliver to just love seeing the kids come.

Big Winner

Okay, so we went to the Pirate game today and we were in our seats, minding our own business watching the 3rd inning when this guy walks up to us in a red shirt. At first I didn't recognize him then it hit me that he was the announcer guy who plays all the games on the jumbotron with fans. He bends down and asks Jordan if he would like to play a trivia game with him. Jordan does his whole shy routine and we say "Yea, of course". So off Jordan and I go to "get ready"
The guy got really nervous because Jordan was acting all quiet and shy. He told him he had to get excited so after meeting all the pirate girls they called in reinforcements........So at the end of the 4th inning the fun started. Cameras rolled and I heard "I'm here with Jordan McKelvey from Forest Hills".........The question was about George Brett, which Jordan got wrong............No need to fret, there is another chance here. Since he got it wrong he only won a hat.....or he could trade the hat for what was inside the box of mystery. Jordan jumped at the chance to go for the box. I think he thought there might be pudding inside because last year at a game a guy won a 5 pound can of pudding which they challenged him to eat all of before the game was over to win a prize. Jordan didn't win pudding. This was big......He won an authentic, autographed, Freddy Sanchez Louisville Slugger!!!!!!!!! IT IS AWESOME!!!!! What are the chances of him getting picked to play out of 30,000 people! Sure did make his day!
I just couldn't help but take this picture this morning when I came into the livingroom and saw Tom......... Dollar store reading glasses......... He said "I know your going to put this on the blog, tell everyone it was a dollar well spent!"
They may not be league champions but they're still champs with all of us parents! Unfortunately Jordan's baseball team didn't win the big championship.
But they still enjoyed hamming it up for this photo op.........

Fathers day

Tom's new father's day present........... (not sure if it's a "gift" considering it just makes for more work) I have been begging him for years to get a new lawn mower. Our old one had a tree fall on it. I'm not lying. He patched it up as best he could and continued using it. You had to pull the spark plug wire off in order to stop it.
So now this powerful self propelled baby almost cuts the grass all by itself! ALMOST
Hey did you notice the big bush in the back there where Tom's cutting grass? That's my red raspberry bush. It's awesome. My favorite thing to make? Raspberry Lemonade....YUM

Happy Father's Day

Happy Father's Day to all you Dad's out there. I spent the day thinkng about my Daddy. He went on to be with the Lord in September 1999. It was very sudden. Here are just a few of the pictures I have of him. Christmas 1972. I was 5 years old....I was 15 here...This will always be in my memory as the last picture I ever took of him. We were in Ohio
visiting him just days before he died.We were there in the middle of the week and by the weekend he was gone. You never know what the future holds. Give your Dad a kiss today, hold him tight, and let him know just how much he means to you. You never know when you'll have that chance again. Like the song that's playing, "how I'd love to dance with my father again". I'll always love you Daddy!

What a day....

What an interesting day we had today. Last night about 7pm we had a major storm come through here. I'm talking rain, wind, lightning, and oh did I mention RAIN? We ended up with about 2 inches of water in our basement and spent most of the evening sweeping, pushing, and mopping water to the drain. But that wasn't even the fun part......... The fun part came in the form of a power outage. We were without power (including the phone) for 27 hours. All day today. Thank goodness that we live close to Tom's Mom, we took all of our freezer contents over to her house for a little sleep over! Power was finally restored at 10:30 tonight. Just in the nick of time, there is only so much you can cook on a gas grill!

City of Champions!

The Red Wings' Marian Hossa ( who just left the penguins because he thought that he had a better chance of winning the cup in Detroit) skates away as the Pittsburgh Penguins celebrate their first goal in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals. (Dale G. Young / The Detroit News)

critter

We just had our homeschool evaluation completed. Everything went well. We got an excellent report. Now I have to turn it into the school district and wait for next year. We've decided to send both of them to school next year. I still can't believe that I have a son going into high school! UGH Help me. Anyway, here's another critter I found in our yard the other day....

I took the kids to the movies today after we delivered meals on wheels. We went to see the new Pixar movie "UP". It was really cute. Here we are waiting for the movie to start. As you can see the theatre was packed! HA
Another advantage of homeschooling. Matinee movies. Cheaper and less crowded.
Our dog "Snickers" is the spitting image of "Dug" the talking dog from the movie. He has the same mannerisms. It is so funny.
The little wilderness explorer boy, Russell, was really funny too. The crazy bird coming in the side of the picture is "Kevin"! Russell named him that!
It's a great movie to take the kids to, or yourself if you want to act like a kid for a little while!

b-ball

Jordan had his baseball pictures taken on saturday........
They were all dirty by the time this picture was taken. See them all with their hands on their knees? That's why. LOL

Library

The local library in Penn Hills has free chess lessons on wednesday evenings and saturday. Both the kids like going....This man stays all day long and volunteers his time teaching people how to play chess!Cody does not like to lose.....Oh my goodness! Can it be? Is this really Tom at the Library? Reading a book? You folks have seen a very rare thing. Usually he just stops everday (the library is on his mail route) parks in the lot, opens his thermos of hot water, adds it to his oatmeal, and eats his lunch here. (I'm not kidding)
